With the hopes of creating a lasting, measurable and positive impact, in December 2024, In Rhyme created a set of two original surveys to observe the language skills of 50 students at the premises of the Adharshila NGO. The "before" version of the survey focused on understanding the students' comfort and ability in English prior to the social project's initiatives, while the "after" hoped to observe changes in approaches to the language, as well as attitudes towards learning English.
An original, interactive activity book designed to supplement poetry and writing workshops. This book provided a step-by-step guide towards the development of writing pieces, starting from how to find inspiration from the world around you, creating a storyboard of your ideas, systematically working on drafts, and finally creating a piece of creative writing. 50 copies of this activity book were donated to the NGO partner, Adharshila.
Along with the printed copies of the workbook and conducting the workshops, In Rhyme donated 50 kits made up of crayons, pencils, and notebooks to the students at Adharshila to supplement their process of learning.
To support the above activity book, In Rhyme conducted a series of five workshops specifically on creative writing, with the hopes of inspiring students to start composing poetry. The workshops explored the intricacies of writing poetry, such as meter, rhyme schemes, and stanzas to imbibe an understanding of poetic structure and form. To help students branch out into less conventional forms of poetry, the workshops had a session on free verse writing as well. The workshops concluded with a final session on editing and publication, with the hopes of providing students an outlet to find platforms for their drafted work.
The initiative raised a sum of INR 50,000 which was donated to Adharshila for the to set up a library and supply it with books by authors like Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl, and Julia Donaldson to help students develop a habit of reading. Surplus funds were also utilized for the NGOs daily operations and ongoing interventions and activities.
Post the completion of the Writing in Rhyme Workshops, In Rhyme helped organize a talent show at Adharshila. Students of all ages were encouraged to present their ideas and talents, and the intiative supported their endeavors through proofreading their speeches and writing, as well as practicing their skills. In Rhyme also sourced refreshments, microphones, and a P.A. system for the talent show.
15 students performed across poetry, speeches, dance, and music, and chocolates were distributed to all performers.
